Normand's repertoire is a musical tableau of Paris in the 1920's, 1930's and 1940's. This was the golden era of French chanson, jazz and swing; for example:
La vie en rose - La romance de Paris
La mer - Les feuilles mortes - C'est si bon
His repertoire also includes American standards popular in that period:
Ain't Misbehavin' - Blue Skies
Right or Wrong - MY Blue Heaven
His pieces are performed with voice, guitar, and the harmonica, the latter often used for accordion effects. You'll hear whistling - much in vogue
then - and the occasional yodel!
Normand performs vintage pop music heard in cafes and
dance halls of that era: waltzes, tangos, the java
(a dance
invented in Paris and performed in bal-musettes) and
swing numbers!
Normand has lived in Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto and for the last 20 years, Ottawa.
Over the past few years, he has played in outdoor cafes, retirement residences, churches,
department stores, for benefits and for Paris-themed birthdays and anniversaries in
Ottawa and Gatineau.
